Think about the clinical environment where you work or one in which you previously worked. Identify opportunities for waste reduction. Consider the following: Setting: administrative, operational, clinical
Efficiency Value to patient During Disaster Preparedness or Event Management (Such as current SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic)
Suggest process changes to improve the situation.
Part 1: Write a 175-word communication to frontline staff and nurse leaders explaining your recommendations.
Waste management is an crucial factor when coming to any hospitals. Both biomedical and normal wastes are segregated and reusable products are recycled and the biomedical waste which requires to be destroyed has to be destroyed.
Coming to the minimum waste disposal the main points which I feel can be implemented is explained below.
I have noticed that the bed and linen used in my hospital is not of a high grade cotton which causes easily wear and tear of that and patient mostly complains of the poor quality of the bed and linen which gets escalated and later the used bed will be disposed and a new one with the same quality is replaced and again same complaints after 6 or 7 months, What I suggest is what if god quality of bed , Linen, Blankets are purchased on the first instance , There will be no wastage of these general waste from that.
Secondly the paper waste which is simply used to maintain the medical records which can be easily be replaced by electronic records, we still write the data on files my adding the nurses sheet and doctors on doctors sheet, which can easily be missed or damaged, but electronic records are far more effective in reducing the paper consumption and he data saved is far more secure than that in paper sheets (if we maintain back up for data loss. If proper training is given to the doctors and nurses regarding maintaining health records digitally 40 % paper consumption can be reduced in hospital.
And one more point to add is only order whatever is required, as ordering without the prior calculation of consumption can lead to wastage of the products
These are my recommendation in the ward which I work to reduce the waste reduction in my clinical setting.
