Discuss the term "clinical death," especially with respect to when not to initiate CPR. Discuss what is meant by a "peaceful death" and a "good death," including goals for End-Of-Life care. How would you feel if you knew your patients did not want CPR but the family insisted on it?
CLINICAL DEATH:-It refers to the cessation of the two necessary
criteria to sustain human living-
Blood circulation
Breathing.
- In short, Stoppage of heart beat and breathing is called clinical
death.
CPR(CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION) IN CLINICAL DEATH:-
- There is variation in the effectiveness of CPR to reinitiate the
cardiac beats.
-Blood pressure is very low during manual CPR, resulting in only a
ten-minute average extension of survival.
GOOD DEATH OR PEACEFUL DEATH:-
- Good death reflects individual preferences for how a person wants
to die.
- Good death is to be mentally at peace (not worried, and knowing
that everything will carry on correctly) for people after you've
gone. -whether that's emotionally, financially or in any other
way.
- factors constituenting good death are-
Dying at home, with family and friends.
Dying without stressful physical symptom
(nausea ,vomiting, pain, dyspnoea etc)
GOALS OF END-OF-LIFE CARE:-
-To be cured
- To extend life
- To improve quality of life
- To be comfortable
- To achieve life goals.
