Although research has identified milestones in language development, children exhibit lots of individual variation. Briefly describe the pros and cons of knowing language development norms?

Some important language milestones are: But, there are many individual variations exhibited by children in case of these milestones.

These variations can occur due to many factors like gender(girls develop language faster) ,exposure to words, pitch, repetition, imitation abilities etc.

So pros of knowing language development norms is that we can identify easily if any disorders like hearing disorders or cerebral palsy ,etc are associated with the child at an early phase .

The cons is that it is quite normal in case of some children to show variations from given milestones . Knowing language milestones may create anxiety in case of some parents of children who show some delay in acquiring those milestones.
