Identify and address three issues facing HR in an integrated health system which may or may not be advantageous.
In order to provide a high quality of health care, the proper management of human resources is critical. Efficient human resources management strategies are greatly needed to achieve better outcomes from health care around the world.
1. Workforce training
The composition of the health workforce in terms of both skill categories and training levels is an important issue. It is an essential duty of the human resources personnel to consider this. The options for continuing education and in-service training of healthcare workers are essential to meet a country's present and future healthcare needs. The success of health care system depends on the properly trained and competent workforce.
2. Retaining of health care workers
Migration of the healthcare workforce is an issue that faced globally in healthcare systems. The mobility of the workforce can create additional imbalances in the integrated healthcare system and that requires better workforce planning and overall management of the workforce.
To retain the workforce the convenient working hours, warm work environment, salary incentives, other strategies such as housing, infrastructure and opportunities for job rotation etc. can be planned. The underpaid, poorly motivated and very dissatisfied workforce are having the more migration chances. The issue of migration of health workers must be carefully measured and monitored.
3. Ageing workforce
Socio-demographic elements such as age distribution of the workforce population also play a key role in a healthcare system. The demands of an ageing population within the health care system demands organized planning for additional training of younger workers to fill the positions of the healthcare workers that will be retiring. Proper management training for the workers must be ensured well in advance of the vacant positions.
