describe the emerging practice area
In general, emerging practices are the interventions which hold a promise based on some level of evidence of effectiveness that is not research-based. Emerging practice areas were first identified by AOTA as the areas that occupational therapy practitioners had the potential to make an impact. AOTA is the American Occupational Therapy Association.
AOTA has identified emerging practice areas in the areas of children, youth, health, mental health, productive aging, rehabilitation, work and education.
The demand for occupational therapists (OTs) who can help individuals with physical, cognitive and emotional limitations achieve independence in their daily living environments is growing now-a-days.
After a period of layoffs, the OT profession has bounced back and is branching out in new directions. But, job opportunities in hospitals, schools and other traditional settings remain strong.
For example: Older Americans prefer to stay in homes rather than enter long-term-care facilities. There OTs help make that desire a reality.
