Who is in support of independence and who is against this decentralization? What are some of the tactics used by independence movements and anti-independence nationalists to support their causes? b. What is the economic self-interest involved for those for and against secession in the example you have chosen? Secessionist movement is going on in Scotland and they want independent soverign state of there.
Scotland is in favour of independce and England is against it and Scotland had conducted independence refrendum in 2014 in which no votes prevailed over yes votes and No votes received 55% votes and Yes votes received 45% of votors support and counting officer Mary Picaithly said that it is clear that majority of people voted no to refrendum question and did not want Scotland to be independent and soverign state.
At the time of Brexit(Britain's withdrawal of European Union) vote of 23/06/2016 Scotland voted to remain in the EU with 62% voted to remain in EU while 38% voted to leave the EU.
Scotland has argued that only independent Scotland can fully utilise its natural resources.
As per Scotland 64% of EU oil reserves exist in scottish waters
and according to David Hume institute Scotland has reserves of oil
and gas of value of 4 trillion british pound.
According to Scotland if independence is achieved then Scotland can
achieve its full potential of renewable energy resources and it has
25% of Europe's wing energy potential, 25% of Europe's tidal energy
potential and 10% of Europe's wave energy potential.
As per UK, Scotland is economically stronger as part of UK's economy and it can better prosper being part of UK in globalised economy and get international influence and stability being part of UK.
Scotland will not be able to sustain public spending while being independent without raising taxes and David Maddox has written in the Scotsman in 2008 and pointed out that North sea's oil resrve's will decline in future.
