So we have concepts of sublethal injury, that may or may not be reversible, lethal injury that causes a catastrophic break up of the cell, necrosis, or a more dainty and controlled form of programmed cell death known as apoptosis.

What are your thoughts about these types of injury - can you think of any examples? How you might expect them to manifest themselves!

Expert Solution

Necrosis, apoptosis are injuries constantly occuring in our body..Apoptosis is programmed cell death,it occurs during embryogenesis or whenever viral infection/malignancy occurs, whenever any change occurs intrinsic to cell, flippage of phospotidayl serine receptors occurs,it gives siganl to apoptosis, death receptors are present(TNF),these stimulate death domains inturn activates caspases..caspases cause apoptosis..in apoptosis cell membrane will be intact n there is no inflammation,in apoptosis cell shrinkage occurs..

In Necrosis..is caused by factors external to cell like infection,toxins,trauma..cause premature death of cell...in this cell membrane integrity is lost and inflammation is present around the surrounding tissue which leads to chemotaxis and cell death..during initial stages of necrosis it is reversible, after that it become irreversible..whenever cell injury occurs, hypoxia occurs..it leads to stoppage of Na+-k+ pump, Na+ accumulated along with water in cell, intially blebs formed,it is reversible..after that enzymes activated within cell causes pyknosis, karyorrhexis, karyolysis(it is irreversible)..cell death occurs..

we have studied the concept of risk and return - so we know the fundamentals. To assume additional risk, investors will require the opportunity to receive additional return. Additionally, some investors by nature are more risk averse than others - this is what drives financial markets. Let's assume that you have just inherited an unexpected large sum of $100,000 for which you have no pressing financial demands and which you decided to invest for 10 years to revisit at that...

c++ We can dynamically resize vectors so that they may grow and shrink. While this is very convenient, it is inefficient. It is best to know the number of elements that you need for your vector when you create it. However, you might come across a situation someday where you do not know the number of elements in advance and need to implement a dynamic vector. Rewrite the following program so that the user can enter any number of purchases,...

Java Programming Assignment 6-1 We have covered the “Methods” this week. Apply the concepts that we have learnt in class and come up with a “problem scenario” for which you can create a “solution”. Utilize any/all of the examples from the book and class that we discussed. You program should be interactive and you should give a detailed statement about what the “description of the program – purpose and how to use it”. You should also use a “good bye”...

At a particular locus, the homozygous genotype is lethal. We observe a cross between two heterozygous parents. Which of the following will not be true for their offspring: a) All offspring will look the same b) The genotype and phenotype ratios will be the same c) All offspring will be heterozygous d) Half of the offspring will die e) Genotype and phenotype ratio will be 1:2:1 what ratio would this offspring be?

One of the key concepts we have discussed this semester is the concept of “Elasticity”. Generally speaking, elasticity is simply a measure of how responsive one variable is to a change in another variable. While we have focused on the “own price elasticity of demand”, the “income elasticity of demand” and the “cross-price elasticity of demand” this concept can be extended to a number of different situations. (10 pts) The demand curve for a product is given by Qx=1,000-2Px+0.02Pz,  where Pz...

In this assignment, you are asked to begin to pull together the marketing concepts we have been discussing and to think ahead. Entrepeneurship is really a concept of evolution, an idea that often begins as a small business. Before it became Walmart was we know it, Sam Walton's store began in a small town in Arkansas. A similar history exists for McDonald's -- a small hamburger stand in California. In the auto industry, the Dodge Brothers really did exist. Look...

I would recommend your response contain 2-5 paragraphs in to...
