GLUCAGON: It is the harmone secreted by
pancreas cells called Islets of langerhans and increase tge glucose
level in blood.
FUNCTIONS OF GLUCAGON:
- Stimulates liver to breakdown stored glycogen into glucose and
release into blood
- Activates Gluconeogenesis ie, conversion of amino acids into
glucose
- Breaking down stored fat into fatty acids and use it as fuel
for cells.
EPINEPHRINE AND NOREPINEPHRINE EFFECTS:
- Epinephrine and norepinephrine are responsible for breakdown of
stored glycogen into glucose,as the breaking function is done by
Glucagon they increase the level of plasma glucagon and inhibition
of production of insulin.
PLASMA GLUCAGON IMPORTANTANCE DURING
EXERCISE:
- During Exercise, there is stress on the body and more energy is
needed to perform the activity this leads to release of epinephrine
and norepinephrine.
- Both Harmones increase the production of plasma glucagon which
stimulates the liver in breakdowing the stored glycogen to
glucose,it also break fat into fatty acids which are fuel for
cells.
- The glucose and fatty acids help in meeting the needs of energy
during exercise.
