1- How far you can go in a car in 1 1/2 hours if you are travelling at 60 miles per hour?

2- How much acetic acid, CH3COOH(MWou 60.06 G/MOL) should you weight out to obrain 1.5 mol of CH3COOH?

3- IF a tavle of Tylenol contains 400.0 mg of acetaminophen and the recommended dosage of pain reliever is 2 tables for every 300 minutes . how kilograms can be safely taken in a day?

4- you are in a boat that uses four gallon of gas per hour,travels at six miles per hpur and has ten gallon of gas. Can you make it across the lake to the other shore which is 14 miles away?

5- You can making lunch for 12 people.You plane to give each a " quarter pound" cheeseburger ( 4 burgers per pound of hamburger) a bag of chips and a can of coke.How many packs of buns ,pounds of hamburger and pounds of cheese do you need ?

Solutions

Expert Solution

1)Given data: Speed = 60 miles/hrs, Time = 1½ hrs = 1.5 hr, Distance = ?

Formula, Distance = Speed x Time

Distance = 60 x 1.5

Distance = 90 miles.

With 60 miles/hr speed in 1½ hr distance travelled will be 90 miles.

====================================

1 mole of compound = Molecular weight of compound.

So, 1 mole Acetic acid = 60.06

Then 1.5 mole acetic acid = 1.5 x 60.06 = 90.09 g acetic acid……….(Just multiplied by 1.5 on both side of above equation.)

To obtaine 1.5 mole of acetic acid we should weigh 90.09 g acetic acid.

3)

1 Tablet = 400 mg Acetaminophene

So, 2 Tablets = 800 mg Acetaminophene

Recommended dose is 2Tablet for 300 minutes.

i.e. 800 mg for 300 minutes.

i.e. 300 minutes = 800 mg Acetaminophene

Then, 1 Day i.e. 24 hrs i.e. 1440 minutes = say ‘A’ mg Acetaminophene

So, A = (800 x 1440) / 300

A = 3840 mg Acetaminophene

A = 3840 x 10-6 Kg Acetaminophene………………(1 mg = 10-6 Kg)

A = 3.84 x 10-3 Kg Acetaminophene.

3.84 x 10-3 Kg Acetaminophene can be safely taken in a day.

4- you are in a boat that uses four gallon of gas per hour,travels at six miles per hpur and has ten gallon of gas. Can you make it across the lake to the other shore which is 14 miles away?

Given data:

Speed of boat = 6 miles/hr

i.e. Boat travels 6 miles in 1 hr

I.e. 1 hr = 6 miles………..(1)

but, Gas required per hour = 4 gallons

i.e. 4 gallons gas = 1 hr………………..(2)

comparing (1) and (2) we get,

4 gallons = 1 hr = 6 miles

i.e. 4 gallons = 6 miles

then, 10 gallons = say B miles

B = (10 x 6) / 4

B = 15 miles

I.e. in 10 gallons we can travel 15 miles distance and certainly we can make it across the lake to the other shore which is just 14 miles.
