Patient HL comes into the clinic with the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. The patient has a history of drug abuse and possible Hepatitis C. HL is currently taking the following prescription drugs:
There are many causes of nausea and vomiting, most commonly these symptoms are caused by ingestion of substances or drugs, gastrointestinal disordersor metabolic disorders In this particular case study it is important to take into consideration the factors that could be contributing to the nausea, vomiting and diarrhea in patient HL. The patient has a history of drug abuse. With that being said, drug withdraw can be a factor in the cause of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Treatment for this type of cause would be dependent on what type of drug that patient was withdrawing from. The next factor would be medications the patient is currently taking. All three of these medications has nausea , vomiting and diarrhoea as its side effects if there is hypersensitivity to these medication or if it's misused or any drug interaction .
Another possible cause can be gastroenteritis is an intestinal infection marked by watery diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea or vomiting, and occasionally fever .The most common way to develop gastroenteritis is through contact with an infected person or by ingesting contaminated food or water .
Hepatitis :- acute or chronic inflammation caused by bacterial or viral infection, parasitic infestation ( usually by contaminated water or food) , or chemical agents can be also one the reasons behind nausea , vomiting and diarrhea.
Drug therapy for the reasons behind nausea , vomiting and diarrhea is to manage the condition by using antidiarrheal , antiemetics drugs for gastrointestinal disease . If it's due to the drug therapy he is already on then modification on those drugs would be helpful for the patient as it would avoid hypersensitivity reactions ,drug interactions etc and if it due to hepatitis then treating it with antiviral agents would be appropriate .
