Duty of care:
Description:
How would you use this to review and improve your own practice
Answer 1. Duty of care means that there is an obligation on a nurse in avoiding acts or duties on time, which could be reasonably judged to injure or harm other people. The nurse has not played his/her legal responsibility for which they being paid, resulting in some kind of loss for other people.
A nurse has many important roles at job place, which are anyhow connected to the lives of people who seek care from them. Nurse's role list is big and majorly includes:-
. To check patients when admitted and to maintain records of medical history and symptoms.
. To plan a care plan for the patients with other team members
. To keep monitoring the patient's health by timely administrating the medicines and treatments to them.
. They need to perform many diagnostic tests and to educate the patient and the family about the illness, and its treatment processes.
. The patients are totally dependant upon the nurses till they are discharged.
The duty of care is applied here if the nurse is not playing his/her part properly and has missed any of such things mentioned above. Such mistakes can lead to loss of one's life or can give them a lifelong damage.
With such obligations, as a nurse, it becomes more important for me to revive things again with more perfection. I have to be more careful and attentive towards my work, so that I can't miss any single and minor point of concern, be intentionally or unintentionally. I need to be very clear in my conscious and practice to abide by my duties.
