The Emergency Response Guidebook originally was developed by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Transport Canada and the Secretariat of Transport and Communications of Mexico. The ERG helps first responders quickly identify the hazard(s) of the materials and protect themselves and the general public during the initial response phase of an incident.

Answer to question:   Minimum 75 words answer.

Chemicals is hazardous to humans or the environment if released improperly - Hazards can occur during production, storage, transportation- Hazardous materials can cause death, serious injury. During any release of hazardous materials the ERG (Emergency Response Guidebook) plays an extremely important role as to how to respond to the emergency. By utilizing the ERG first responders can positively identify the material being released, and by the information provided in the ERG they can also calculate the approximately amount, whether the substance is flammable or toxic, and the proper way to respond to the release minimizing the exposure to the hazard. The ERG provides recommended actions to be taken by first responders on scene when an incident occurs (Meyer, E. 2014).
