What role would mitosis play in the body of an adult animal? What advantage does the process of crossing over bring to reproduction? Why would the method of cytokinesis in animal cells not work in plant cells?
Ans 7. Mitosis is a type of cell division which occurs in all eukaryotes. In an adult animal, mitosis allows cell division every day. Mitosis is equational division. It divides one diploid cell to give two diploid cells. So, it divides the cell, and at the same time it maintains the diploid chromosome number of the cells also.
Cells destroyed by daily wear and tear are reconstituted in the body via mitosis. These include skin surface cells, cells of nails and hair, and all epidermal cells of the human body. Normally one mitotic division completes in 24 hours.
