Mrs. Johnson, a 45-year-old woman who is healthy and is a middle-class worker, recently received news that she carries the APEO-e4 gene that may increase her chance of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
What are modifiable factors that Mrs. Johnson can change to reduce her risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease? Which level/levels of prevention do these modifiable factors correlate with?
MODIFIABLE FACTORS TO PREVENT ALZHEIMERS DISEASE :-
IT INCLUDES :-
Physical activity :- physical activity prevents beta - amyloid protein accumulation in the brain. By doing physical activity we can decrease the risk of alzheimer's disease.
Tobacco use :- who is e4 carriers if they smoke they will have less verbal and memory power. Cessation is good for e4 carriers to prevent alzeimer's disease.
Alcohol consumption :- heavy consumption of alcohol have risk of alzheimers disease
Cognitive activities :- involving more cognitive activities decrease risk of alzhemiers disease. Example : playing games, listening songs , computer usage, involving social activities may prevent risk.
Diet :- mono non saturated , poly non saturated , red meat, legumes , vegetables this foog items decrease the risk of alzhemier's disease.
Vitamin D :- less vitamin D causes less conitive function. Vitamin D supplementation is preferable for APOE e4 carriers.
Saturated fatty acid diet have more risk of alzhemiers disease.
Comorbidities :- having hypertension, diabetes mellitus , Hyper lipidimia having more risk of alzemiehers disease. This comorbidities should'be managed carefully.
Sex is non modifiable risk factor : - patient need to be aware of the risk factors.
This is primary level of prevention . because patient is having risk , we should identify the modifiable factors and by following this we can prevent risk of alzhemiers disease.
