Choose a possible environmental hazard in your area or in the community you choose for your project. Research the hazard, make a graphic of the issue with possible effects and to whom. Make sure to cite your sources.
Introduction
Air pollution is one of the serious environmental health hazards and India is one of the most polluted countries in the world.Air pollution is a great issue with harmful consequences for the environment and for the human health. So it is extremely important to understand fundamental sources, causes and health effects associated with air pollution.
Objectives
The overall aim of the research is to understand the link between air pollution levels and chemical composition and to assess the effects and related health problems of air pollution in the community.
Air pollution occurs when harmful or excessive quanties of substances are introduced into earths atmosphere.Any process that produces substances that are small and light enough to be carried in air or are gases can cause air pollution. As everybody knoes humans nad other living beings depend rely on atmosphere for respiration. When the air is polluted immediate and longer term consequences takes place.
Causes
-Vehicle exhaust fumes. The number one source of air pollution isvehicle exhaust fumes which happen to release high amounts of carbon monoxide. The number of vehicles on the road are also increasing dramatically.
-Fossil fuel based power plants.Chemicals likesulfur dioxide are released during the burning process, for energy in power plants.
-Exhaust from factories and industrial plants.Various machinaries used in the factories also emits huge amount of pollutants in the air.
Agricultural activities and construction.Certain pestiides and fertilizers used for agriculture purpose also cause air pollution.Construction works also cause air and noise pollution.
Natural causes like volcanoes, forest fires are also caues of air pollution.
Consequences-It causes irritation to skin, nose ,throat and lungs. It is the majour cause of respiratory infections like asthma, copd, urti, emphysema etc. When continually exposed to air pollution, humans become at higher risk for cardiovascular diseases. The toxic air can have a number of adverse effects on the arteries and even been a contributor to heart attacks.Global warming is the another majour problem.Wild life endargerment and acid rain are the other complications of air pollution.
Our city is in the grip of rising air pollution.Official ambient air quality monitoring has already shown 57% increase in paticulate matter in just 4 years and 23% in one year. In more than 85% monitoring locations the levels have exceeded standards.Toxicity level of air in the city is increasing in an alarming rate.A recent analysis of air quality data from the city shows that itsPM 10 level has gone up by 46% in the past 10 years.
The whole community will get health hazards of air pollution especially vulnerable groups like new born babies, children, pregnant mothers, old age people, people who are more prone to asthma etc.
Conclusion-It is the resposibility of each individual to protect our enviornment. We are responsible that our environment is threatened with extinction. So we should keep in mind that our each and every single step to be environmental friendly and to protect and preserve our enviroment.
