A 'culture of safety' describes the core values and behaviors that come about when there is a collective and continuous commitment by organizational leadership, managers and health care workers to emphasize safety over competing goals.(https://www.nursingworld.org/practice-policy/work-environment/health-safety/culture-of-safety)
Some of the values that ensure a safety culture are efficiency in work, proficiency, establishing trust , good communication skills ,involving in team work and mostly all together working towards quality ,safety of patient.
Healthcare facilities should set safety as a priority aim, provide formal training, formulate procedures & policies towards safety and review it periodically, assist the employees in preventing breach of safety, encourage teamwork and communication. Moreover a health care facility should be committed towards quality and safety of patient.
Nurse should follow her ethical principles to enhance the safety of patient and provide a quality care.Nurse should always be committed towards care of patient, work as a team, communicate efficiently ,monitor the safety of patient, any errors created should be reported and resolved, donot be biased, be a good listener .Nurses are strong patient safety advocates and we continue to retain the title of the most trusted healthcare professionals. By having a heightened sense of awareness and minimizing distractions during high-risk tasks, such as medication administration and handoff reporting; speaking up when we have a patient safety or clinical practice concern; embracing evidenced based practice (https://journals.lww.com/nursingmadeincrediblyeasy/Fulltext/2017/07000/Our_safety_culture.1.aspx)
