As no text from the chapter has been attached thus I am
answering in general.
When digestive system does not works properly, fat is excreted
by the digestive system inspite of being absorbed by the body. This
condition is known as steatorrhoea.
Malfunctioning of the digestive system can be attributed to:
- Cystic fibrosis- It is a genetic disorder, that affects the
normal functioning of digestive system by the deposition of
excessive sticky sputum.
- Inflammation of the pancreas or chronic pancreatitis may also
lead to the occurrence of steatorrhoea. Improper functioning of
pancreas will secrete abnormally low level of lipase as a result
fat will not be digested or absorbed by the body, and excreted as
such.
- Blockage in the bile duct or biliary atresia will affect bile
secretion. Bile helps in the emulsification of the fats. This also
leads to the occurrence of fats in the excreta.
- Bacterial infection causing whipple's disease affects the
digestion of fats.
- Crohn's disease in which inflammation of the bowel's occurs is
also a causative agent for this ailment.
