what is the functional motif of mycobacterium tuberculosis K or mycobacterium tuberculosis in general?
Mycobacterium tuberculosis is aerobic, nonspore forming, motile gram positive or gram negative. It has a very low growth rate and a very long incubation period. It uses many toxin anti toxin systems to survive. in the lungs, M.tuberculosis is phagocytosed by alveolar macrophages, but they are unable to kill and digest the bacterium. It cell wall prevent fusion of phagosome with lysosome. The bacteria multiply unchecked within the macrophage. The bacteria also carry the UreC gene, which prevents acidification of the phagosome. And the production of detripene iso tubercolosinol prevents maturation of the phagosome.mycobacterim tuberculosis secretes and covers itself in 1-tuberculosinyladenosine ,that acts as an antacid, which neutralize pH and creates swelling in lysosomes.Apoptosis is been suppressed during the infection...and hence provide bacteria a safe replicative environment. So it can maintain a latent state for a long timeMycobacterium tuberculosis have developed resistance to more than one TB drug, due to mutations in their genes. Commonly used TB drugs such as rifampicin and streptomycin have decreased efficiency in clearing intracellular Mycobacterium. tuberculosis due not being able to effectively penetrate the macrophage environment.
Multidrug regimens, typically starting with at least four active drugs, are recommended. At least 6 months of therapy is usually required.
