The organ that is being discussed here is human skin which happens to be the outer covering of the body. In humans being the skin is the largest organ of the integumentary system. The skin is made up of to seven layers of ectodermal tissue and guards the underlying muscles, ligaments, bones and internal organs.

Skin has the following tissues that aids in the functions that have been described:

  • The epidermis, among outermost layer of skin, provides a waterproof barrier and creates our skin tone; this tissue has a general advantage of reducing chemical damages
  • The dermis this happens to be the second layer that is located beneath the epidermis it contains tough connective tissue, hair follicles, and sweat glands that aids in processes described above.
  • The deeper subcutaneous tissue also called hypodermis it is composed of fat and connective tissue.

Our outer layer of skin is epithelial tissue; Functions of epithelial cells include facilitates secretion, selective absorption,, transcellular transport protection ,and sensing.

The other adipose tissue is located beneath the skin also referred to as (subcutaneous fat), Its main function is to store energy which is in the form of fat, it also cushions and insulates the body.
