In a marketing study, 100 consumers were asked to select the best digital music player from the iPod, the iRiver, and the Magic Start MP3. To summarize the consumer responses with a frequency table, how many classes would the frequency table have?
A frequency table generally have two fields,
Class is the category or in some cases, we can say the main category on which the table is formed. As we can see here the main category is the company of the digital music player.
The frequency f of a class is the number of data entries in a particular class.
Now, when we will form the frequency table for the above-given information, that will look like,
Digital Music Player | Frequency |
The iPod | i |
The iRiver | j |
The Magic Start Mp3 | k |
In the above table the iPod, the iRiver, and the Magic Start Mp3 are the classes, and i, j, and k are the frequency of these classes respectively.
The Sum of i, j, and k will always be 100 because there are a total of 100 consumers.
Now, we are asked how many classes will we want to form a frequency table. So, form the above table we can say that we want three classes, one each of a company of digital music player.
