Expert Solution

The main vessel delivering deoxygenated blood to lung is Pulmonary Trunk.(also called pulmonary artery).

Artery are those vessels which delivers blood from heart to different body parts. Students have a misconception that all arteries carries oxygenated blood in a adult body but that is not true, because pulmonary arteries are only arteries in adult body which carry deoxygenated blood . Similarly pulmonary vein carries oxygenated blood.

Now let's see the basic anatomy.

In human blood circulation is divided into 2 types

A. Systemic circulation

B. Pulmonary circulation

Systemic circulation start from left ventricle.Aorta carry oxygenated blood from left ventricle and deliver them to all tissues.(Bronchial artery,a branch from aorta delivers oxygenated blood to lung.Lung tissue utilizes oxygen from bronchial artery . Then this deoxygenated blood is carried by bronchial vein and drained into superior vena cava)This deoxygenated blood from tissues is collected and then drained into right atrium by Superior and Inferior vena cava. This ends systemic circulation.

Pulmonary circulation start from Right ventricle. Deoxygenated blood from Right ventricle is carried by pulmonary trunk and this pulmonary trunk divide into left and right pulmonary arteries. These pulmonary arteries supply deoxygenated blood to lung.Deoxygenated blood gets oxygenated in lung. Then oxygenated blood from lung enters Pulmonary veins. Pulmonary vein opens into Left atrium and this ends pulmonary circulation.

So lung receive both systemic circulation and pulmonary circulation. Systemic circulation carry oxygenated blood via bronchial artery which is utilized by lung tissue. Pulmonary circulation carry deoxygenated blood via pulmonary think which is oxygenated in lung and then returned to heart by pulmonary vein. The below figure illustrate both type circulation in lung.

In the above figure blue color vessel indicate that vessel is carrying deoxygenated blood and red colour indicate that it is carrying oxygenated blood. Orange arrow indicate direction of blood flow.

If any doubt with this soltion then please comment.

Multiple myeloma, or blood plasma cancer, is characterized by increased blood vessel formulation (angiogenesis) in the bone marrow that is a predictive factor in survival. One treatment approach used for multiple myeloma is stem cell transplantation with the patient's own stem cells. The data show below represents the bone marrow microvessel density for patients who has a complete response to the stem cell transplant (as measured by blood and urine tests). The measurements were taken immediately prior to the stem...

8.8. Consider blood flow in a vessel (i.e., a pipe with a porous wall that is permeable to blood). The radius and length of the vessel are R and L, respectively. In general, the flow is axisymmetric, the fluid velocity has both radial and axial components that are usually determined numerically. However, there are two approximate solutions to this problem. One is to use lubrication theory to determine the relationship between the flow rate and the pressure gradient in the...
