Recently President Trump signed an executive order that instructed federal agencies to give less consideration to an educational degree and more consideration for demonstrable skill for many federal positions. He stressed that there would still be positions that require a degree, but that in many cases a degree should not be given primary weight in the hiring consideration. Educational leaders have indicated that they did not see this as a devaluing of earning a degree, as many of the skills that will give potential employees and edge are often acquired through education. If you were hiring employees for financial positions in a company you either owned or were in upper management, how much weight in the hiring process would you put on college education and why?

Solutions

Expert Solution

As per the information given in the question, if I am required to hire someone on the financial position of my own company or in company in which I were be in the upper management, I would give good amount of weight to the educational degree or say college education. Suppose we consider total weight to be 100%, then, I would like to give weight of 60% to the educational qualification and 40% to the work experience.

It is necessary to understand that finance is a field in which technicalities of modern baking and tax systems have to be understood deeply in order to be a good financial planner for a company. Knowledge regarding modern banking and tax system can not be acquired with the help of experience. It can be acquired through detailed study of different statistical and mathematical financial techniques and reading of different tax laws of the country.

So, in nutshell, I would conclude that educational degree should be given significant amount of weight while recruiting an employee for the financial position in the company.
