President Donald Trump has signed a $2 trillion coronavirus
relief bill as Washington is attempting to mitigate economic damage
from the United States pandemic.
The proposal, which provides one-time incentives to people,
enhanced unemployment benefits, increased welfare assistance, and
loans and grants to companies to prevent layoffs, was unanimously
passed through the Senate House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had described
the bill as "a reduction" of the devastation of the pandemic,
promising Congress would draft more "recovery" aid measures.
The new legislation provides for direct payments to people and companies whose livelihoods have been impacted by the pandemic. It aims to provide $1,200 for each American earning less than $75,000 per year and $500 per child. This also provides money to local governments directly, and funds the provision of unemployment insurance. Under the statute, unemployment benefits are extended to those not usually insured, such as freelancers and gig-economy jobs. The bill also provides loans and tax cuts to firms facing corporate relocation, as one of every four Americans is told to stay at home and only go outside for urgent needs.
