A car is being pulled out of the mud by two forces that are applied by the two ropes shown in the drawing. The dashed line in the drawing bisects the 27.0° angle. The magnitude of the force applied by each rope is 3100 newtons. Arrange the force vectors tail to head and use the graphical technique to answer the following questions.

(a) How much force would a single rope need to apply to accomplish the same effect as the two forces added together?

(b) How would the single rope be directed relative to the dashed line?

  •  not enough information to decide

  • perpendicular to the dashed line

  • slightly below the dashed line

  • along the dashed line

A car is being pulled out of the mud by two forces that are applied by the two ropes shown in the drawing. The dashed line in the drawing bisects the 30.0° angle. Themagnitude of the force applied by each rope is 2900 newtons (N). (a) How much force would a single rope need to apply to accomplish the same effect as the two forcesadded together? (b) What angle would the single rope make relative to the dashed line?

If two ends of a rope are pulled with forces of equal magnitude and opposite direction, the tension at the center of the rope must be zero. True or false? The answer is false. I chose true though and I'm not understanding why. Forces act at the center of mass of the object, so if there are two forces of equal and opposite magnitude, then they should cancel out resulting in zero tension, no?

A heavy sled is being pulled by two people as shown in the figure. The coefficient of static friction between the sled and the ground is μs = 0.571, and the kinetic friction coefficient is μk = 0.395. The combined mass of the sled and its load is m = 306 kg. The ropes are separated by an angle φ = 23°, and they make an angle θ = 29.7° with the horizontal. Assuming both ropes pull equally hard, what...

A heavy sled is being pulled by two people, as shown in the figure. The coefficient of static friction between the sled and the ground is μs=0.587 , and the kinetic friction coefficient is μk=0.403 . The combined mass of the sled and its load is m=351 kg . The ropes are separated by an angle ϕ=26.0° , and they make an angle θ=30.4° with the horizontal. Two blocks connected by a light string are being pulled across a frictionless horizontal tabletop by a hanging 15.0-N weight (block C). Block A has a mass of 4.00 kg. The mass of block B is only 1.00 kg. The blocks gain speed as they move toward the right, and the strings remain taut at all times. ? 1) Assuming the pulley is massless and frictionless, what is the value of the tension T1?
