The order read"patient is short of breath.Place in High Fowler's position to facilitate breathing."
Fowler's position
This is standard position in which the patient is seated in semiupright position at an angle of 45 to 60 degrees and his knees are either bent or straight
High Fowler's Position- High Fowlers is a position in which the patient's upper body is placed at an angle of 60 to 90 degrees in relation to the lower half of the patients body. In this position the patient is placed as high as possible, this position is ideal for feeding, grooming and in case of patients with dyspnea. This position is recommended in case of shortness of breath because in this position there is expansion of lungs, which makes breathing comfortable for patients
In case of pulmonary embolism if a patient feels shortness of breath the patient will be placed in semi-fowlers position because if the patient is placed in high-fowler's position,it will lead to flexure of hip muscles which may decrease the venous return to heart which will increase the risk of new emboli.
semi-fowlers position is the position in which the patient is placed in such a way that the upper half of patient's body makes an angle of 15-45 degrees to lower half of the patient.
