1.What is the physiological basis for a boy looking for his hat only to discover that he is wearing it?
2. Was the sensation stronger or weaker when your entire hand was immersed in the water? ___________ Explain the sensation
3. Did the sensation change with time when your hands were immersed in: ice water? _________ warm water? ___________Explain.
4.Describe the sensation when both hands were placed in tap water after immersion in ice and warm water, respectively. ______ How do you account for this?
5.What is the physiological basis for a girl believing that the temperature of water in a swimming pool is “?ne” after testing it with her foot but complaining that it is “freezing cold” after jumping in? ________
1. The information of the activities which are done daily, are stored in the short term memory. When the boy wears his hat, it is stored in the short term memory, which is very volatile. Soon he might forget that he is wearing a hat and start searching for it, until realises that he is actually wearing the hat.
2.The sensation will decrease when the whole of the hand is inserted in the water . This because the density of the thermoreceptors is more on the palm and back of the palm , as compared to the elbow.
3.while the hand in cold water, the sensation is first increased , which is followed by the introduction of pain in the hand , and which is finally followed by the feeling of numbness in the hand
When the hand is dipped in warm water, first the sensation is very high, but after keeping the hand in the warm water for longer time, the thermo receptors become adapted , so the sensations decreases.
4.Tap water is generally a little colder than the normal body temperature.
So when the hand, which was first kept in the iced water , is immersed in the tap water, the hand feels little wramer. It may also feel nothing due to numbness .
When the hand is taken out of warm water and then taken under the tap water, it will feel very cold. This is because of the loss of heat form the hand to the tap water.
