A researcher tests whether 4 treatments for depression are different, and gets a significant value for F. What can the researcher conclude about differences between groups? What can the researcher not conclude about differences between groups?
A researcher tests whether 4 treatments for depression are different, and gets a significant value for F. What can the researcher conclude about differences between groups? What can the researcher not conclude about differences between groups?
Solution:
Null Hypothesis(H0) : there is not significant difference between 4 (treatments for depression) groups. All the four group means are same .
Alternative Hypothesis(H1) : there is significant difference between 4 (treatments for depression) groups. Atleast two group means are significantly different.
If researcher gets a significant value for F .
It means Calculated value of F is greater than Critical value of F.
So , researcher can reject the Null Hypothesis (H0) that there is not significant difference between 4 (treatments for depression) groups.
And researcher conclude that there is significant difference between 4 (treatments for depression) groups.
Researcher cannot conclude that there is not significant difference between 4 (treatments for depression) groups.
