The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act is commonly known as HIPAA.
The HIPAA gives the guidelines regarding the federal regulations to maintainthe the privacy and security of patients' health information, as this is the major challenge from the decades for healthcare organizations. According to these guidelines, Third Party Admistrator is committed for surpassing the standards set forth in these regulations as the health as the first concern and then the privacy of the health records.
As per the professional ethics it is required to maintain the confidentiality of the patients informations, gathered during the whole course of therapy.
The data should not be leaked or sold for mere monitory advantages.
The patient rely on the healthcare system so they should not break their trust. Hence to implement such system to maintain the privacy of the patient data the government had set some guidelines and framed it in the form of act and implemented it as a rule.
Prior to HIPAA there was no any clearcut set of security standards for the protection of health information by the health care industry.
But this is a major challenge to maintain the legacy of this system as security rule to protect the privacy of individuals’ health information in the world of new technologies. There are some cases of the data leaking, hacking or sold by the some professionals.
Hence government had set various safeguards on the several levels of the healthcare system to protect such informations.
Government had also set enforcement of penalties for any discrepancy.
But sometimes it sees that there is lack of resources to devote for protection of the healthcare informations. So along with the rules and the concerned penalties the government should make a general awakening in the health care professions to maintain the dignity of their professions.
The governments should frame some additional committees to check the implementation of the set rules.
