chemotherapy drugs such as vincritsine disrupt mitosis. exactly what mitotic structure do this drug target and what effect would that have on cell division?
Ans: Vincritsine is the chemotherapy drugs used in the treatment of different types of cancer such as small cell lungs cancer, Hodgkins lymphoma, acute myeloid leukemia and acute lymphocytic lymphoma. It vinca alkaloids, which is extracted from Madagascar periwinkle Catharanthus roseus. According to world health organization, Vincritsine is most effective drugs for the cancer patients in health system. But it also causes some adverse effects like decreases the WBC differentiation count, lung cell damage and neuropathic pain.
Vincritsine is act on the tubulin protein and inhibit the binding of these protein, by which formation of microtubules inside the cancerous cell is inhibited. During metaphase cell division, microtubules causes the seperation of chromosomes, but due to lack of formation of microtubules inside cancerous cell the chromosomes doesn't get sperated and all these conditions lead to inhibition of cell division.
