4. Why is there a strong recommendation to avoid using restraints in healthcare settings? How can nurses ensure a restraint-free environment?
Restraints: it is defined as the intentional restrictions of a persons voluntary movement or behaviour,restraints are physical, chemical or environment measures used to control the physical or behavioural activity of a person or a portion of his/her body.By using restraints in the healthcare setting there they are many complications like the client freedom is restricted, and ethic of the client will be down and other consequences are bruises, decubitus ulcers, undernutrtion, increased dependences in activites of daily living, increased muscle strength, and also by this there is lost of psychological distress likefeeling depress, shame, lossof identity and anxiety and emotional trauma, etc so there is strong recommendation to avoid using restraints in healthcare setting b) Restrain free environment: it means no words, devices,or actions will interfere with a persons ability to make a decsion or restrict their free movement, a behavioral health nurse provides guidances on how to eliminate the need for restraints in a cute care behavioral health facilities,the nurses ensures a restraints free environment by creative ways of protecting patients without the use of restraints, and by effective interventions, and training the nurses in descalation and crisis intervention technique, and nurses use the therapuetic environment that promote patient recovery, and reinforcing patient centered care etc.
