Many historians suggest that the “failure of diplomacy” led to the war in 1914. What attempts did European diplomats make to negotiate and avoid war, and why did these attempts fail?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Various attempts were made by European diplomats to negotiate and avoid war. Franz Ferdinand was the strongest spokesman for peace . He believed that a war would destroy everything relating to both the empires.

But the assassination of the Archduke was one of the reason for outbreak of the war that is the failure of all attempts by diplomats. Thus war was seen as part of history, where everyone be it soldiers or diplomats acted together in forming international relations. War outbreak was mainly because of irrational & pre- capitalist desires for self- glorification and violent self- assertion of the aristocracy class (Franz Ferdinand is the best suitable example of this).
