    • Formative tendency: According to the Carl Roger's formative tendency is the likelihood of both organic and inorganic matter to evolve into a more complex form from the simpler forms.
    • Actualizing tendency: Actualizing tendency is the inclination of an organism including man to strive for wholeness by developing all it's capacities.
  • 2. The two basic needs subsumed within the actualizing tendency are:
    • The basic needs for survival.
    • The needs to achieve the full capacities or to reach the wholeness.

Roger's concept of self is the cognitive or descriptive component of "I" part of a person.The concept of self is the self schemas and deems assertion.The Self Concept provides identity as it comprises of of two elements'personal identity' and 'social identity'.It also includes the past, present and future evaluation of the self.
  • 4. Incongruence: The discrepancy between the percieved self that is how a person see himself/herself and the ideal self that is how a person aims to be is incongruence.

Congruence: A state in which the ideal self and percieved self of a person is very similar or are consistent is congruence. Though this state of congruence rarely exists as there is always some degree of incongruence and the person strives to achieve the congruence state.
