- Identify the four most common underlying causes [mechanisms] for developing thrombocytopenia.
+ Provide a physiological example of each identified mechanisms.
Answer - thrombocytopenia means low level of abnormal platelets. So many causes of thrombocytopenia mostly causes such as following -
Aplastic anemia - In this disorder bone marrow cannot produce platelets in sufficient quantities, bone marrow depression cause deficiency of thrmbocytes(platelets) cause thrombocytopenia.
Liver disorder or liver failure cause deficient function of thrmbopoietin cause abnormal or low production of platelets and high risk for bleeding. Because liver produce thrmbopoietin hormone and very necessary for platelets production.
Leukemia conditions also high risk for thrombocytopenia, bone marrow infiltration happen cause decrease function of bone marrow.
Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) -
It is also important factor for thrombocytopenia, due to various causes rapid and Increase formation of clot cause decrease or depleted platelets and clotting factors results more bleeding and condition like thrombocytopenia.
