As an economist for the United States, how would you set the guidelines for immigration. How do you determine the right number or percentage of people permitted into our country? I am interested in hearing how you would make such a decision. What factors would you consider? What are the potential implications with too little or too much regulation?  Are other countries handling immigration policy better than the United States?

United States immigration are mostly in light because of its among one of the hot topics for politicians and media and always make rounds in the news about illegal immigrants and migration of software engineers to USA.

But there are different type of immigration in USA other than these two which are :-

1) if a non US citizen is married/engaged to a US citizen.

2) immediate family of a US citizen like parent /family or child.

3)orphans adopted by Americans.

4) limit on how many children and immediate family a US citizen wants the immigrate .

5)people coming in for work .

6)people having extraordinary abilities in science , athletic champions and other academic areas.

7)PhD, MBAs , managers of MncS shifting to us offices .

8) people having bachelor's degree with yearsof experience and people having skills in one particular area.

9) unskilled, less than a college degree

All these people are categorised in specific categories and recently prez Trump has stopped giving immigration to people of Iraq, Iran and Libya,Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen for atleast 30 days as to add more screening procedures.

So the policy of immigration is quite clear that the brilliant minds are retained and encouraged to pour into USA all over the world but it's difficult for unskilled people and those who are not direct family of US citizens.

In my opinion , US immigration rules are in favour of the nation and doing good so far.

It brings entrepreneurs who happens to increase employability for Americans.

Incoming of advanced skilled workers , helps keeping the businesses and economy going at a faster pace.

Immigration likely works in favour of the nation as it brings a lot more innovation, talent, diverse skills, technology and valuable human resource.

The number of legal immigrants permitted in US can be limited to 2 millions a year and then if no problems arise, then double the number as the immigrants vastly come for work and business which helps uplift the economy.

There is already very strict regulation on immigration policy and it is getting tougher for not so extraordinary person to get into the US just for work or college.

Canada and Some European countries like Norway , Sweden and Austria are having better immigration policy than USA as these countries more welcoming of foreigners aa the laws if compared are not so strict .
