Question Two

Economic activities in free market could potentially create negative externality impact on the environment, ‘fails’ environment, due to excessive / ineffective use of resources. Environment is commonly regarded as open resources, meaning it is available to all, hence there is no incentive for individual to care for environment. In addition to that, due to finite resources availability, in the process of meeting their needs, people could subconsciously and/or due to self-interest, tend to ignore the consequences of their activities to the environment, this situation becomes worse in some country whereby, the government is not powerful enough to reinforce the law for environmental management.

Identify a natural resource mismanagement (depletion) or an environmental pollution that happened in Zambia in the past years and assess how an environmental regulatory agency (the government) intervened and successfully addressed (not addressed) the problem.

Intervention of Human into the Natural Resources

Please find the list of Intervention that human made with the Natural Resoues

1. Overpopulation

2. Pollusion

3. Deforestation

Let's discuss one by one

1. Overpopulation: In today's modern world one of the biggest problems that we have face in our world in excess in the population. The impact of this issues was create problems in the food shortage in the world. There is shortage of drinking water and shortage power service. It is basic assumption that if the population rises automatically rises the demand. For fulfilling these deman humans will intervine to the natural resources to meet up their deman. Overpopulation in the world menas to secure large volume of resources to fullfill the needs of the human being will automatically misuse the natural resources for fulfilling their demands in the world. To avoid this practice countries which have more populous will take a strategy to control their population then it will benefited to world as well as the natural resources. Then the exploitation will come down will sustain the resources to next generation people.

2. Pollusion: Another big problem faced today's world was the all sort of pollutions like air pollution water pollution etc. Recently when the covid was affected to world then whole world are in the lock down mode so drastically come down the usage of transportation will get the benefit of reduce the air pollution drastically. This exercise was not been contines for long time because world can't survive for this. So must take a successful strategy to reduce the emission of carbons and other related pollutions to safe our life and the next generation also. Try to reduce the petroleum related vehicles and promote more and more electronic vehicle to reduce the carbon emission.

3. Deforestation : Another big headache in our world is the deforestation that was intervined by human to the nature. Several countries adopted strict law to stop the misuses of forest assets but these measures are not enough to decreasing the human intervention in the forest. Recently in Brazil we heard about things happend Amazone forest area. Big part of the forest will going to ruine this will have serious threat to our world to expect for another drastic climate change and other related issues to become more and more complexity in living in this world. Besides Brazil we heard about other corner of the world like Australia, US and some South Asian Region. Deforestation will affected in our total climate system in the world.

There is adequate problem in the system as well governments and not functioning efficently to control the utalisation of the resources will lead to the exploitation from the human is in unethical manner.

Let's disccus about the enviornmental polllution which effected Zambia

The incidents which are happend in the mine (in a copperbelt) from the emission of Sulfer diaoxide to distruct to the vegitation and humans also. These problem will effect the Zambian community very worsely. Emission of this sulfer dioxide will spready all over the community with no limit and affect the total community with differnet disability and also with plant and vegitation also. This will effected in Easten and western areas of Zambia and effect almost all community. This will causes suffer to childern and the old aged people to very seriously. Another problem which was faced in the Northern and southern area of Zambia was they can't even grow the vegitable in their paddy. Accumulation of heavy metals leads to distruct in the soil it effected drastically the livelyhood of the people.

Government should prevent this issues with the locally avaiable applicable technologies to assist mines to minimise the emission of sulfer dioxide. In some extent they were winning in that but it is not that easy to reduce the emission but government will act smartly to come down the emission in a safer position.
