Importance of PEER reviewed Article
The scholarly process where by manuscripts intended to be published in an academic journal are reviewed by independent researchers ( referees), to evaluate the contribution in terms of novelty, importance and accuracy of the Manuscript's conents, is called Peer review.
Importance:
* Peer review helps the publisher to take decision on accepting the article for publishing it.
* Peer review allows the: Scrutiny of the research, or the scholarly article, by the experts of the same field.
* It check the Validity and Suitability of the research or the scholarly article for publication.
How to determine the article is Peer reviewed?
An easy way to determine, whether an article is Peer reviewed , is to check the information regarding the publication.There are certain databases that provide information regarding the journal or article that is selected. One can click the title of the journal after he find a journal or an article in the database or there may be journal description. A Click on the title provides the details of the publication of the article including the Peer reviewed status. (Example for database : EBSCO)
To determine the quality of information in the journal:
1. Article quality may be directly linked with Journal quality. So one can check the journal quality through various ways such as 'Journal Impact factor'. Journal which is having high impact factor is the better choice. Scopus Indexed journals are considered as the quality journals. It is the largest database for citation f journals.
2. Reputation of the organisation or Association that publish the journal or article. One can get the guidance related to quality by checking which association or organisation is publishing the journal. General reputation of the organisation determines the quality of the article. For example : American Psychological Association, World Health Organisation etc publishes high quality studies.
