What is the National Response Plan, and why is it important to homeland security?

Solutions

Expert Solution

The ”National Response Plan” was introduced by the United States in December 2004 as a national plan which was used to react to the emergency/crisis like terrorist attacks or natural calamity. Later in 2008 March 22nd, the national response plan was replaced by the ”National Response Framework”.

The National Response Plan is very important to homeland security as it enables the US government to terminate the possibility of terrorist activity/attacks within the country.

NRP also helps the government to prepare for the major disaster while ensuring minimal damage to the resources of the country.

The “National Response Plan” focuses on 4 factors which are essential for homeland security:-

  • Prevent.
  • Prepare.
  • Respond.
  • Recover.

Prevent.

The National Response Plan helps the government to identify potential threats for the country and enables the concerned authorities to prevent it at an early stage followed by improved and efficient inspection and regular scanning.

Prepare.

NRP ensures preparedness in order to eliminate potential threats followed by regular surveillance over the unusual activities while keeping the resources available in check.

Respond.

National Resource Plan helps in formulating vital policies and plans in order to support Federal actions i.e. To safeguard resources, life, Basic amenities etc.

Recover.

NRP includes the activities to help affected community to get back to its normal state which ensures development and also allows the government to restore its essential resources.

This shows that NRP is very essential for homeland security.
