Shearwater company has been hired you to make the network up and running. Company asked you to configure the network which that allows the employee to share files through the network. Employees must also be able to control resources on their machines. The company wants the most inexpensive solution and only minimal training for employees. The company needs to expand, and its LAN has grown to include several servers and more than 60 workstations. Shearwater has recently purchased another company and needs more space and computers. Expansion plans include leasing another floor four stories above. The current offices in the same building and adding 35 workstations and at least one more server immediately, with additional equipment purchases expected. Would you choose a peer-to-peer network or a server-based network? Write a list of supplies you might need to purchase to accomplish this task. What computer configuration tasks might you need to perform? What type of network is called for LAN, WAN, MAN, or internetwork? What additional devices might be needed to ensure efficient network communication?

Expert Solution

I will choose Server-based network because the users need a security for their project files. It is said that onlythose users assigned to any one project should have access to the project. It also makes the mostsense for networks with 10 or more users or any networks where resources are used heavily. Is also centralized control, security, resource management, or back-up is desirable.A Server-Based network can also be termed as a Client-Server network. A server is a node that acts as a service provider for clients. They wait for client requests and then respond to them. The server is located elsewhere on the network, usually on a more powerful machine. Here, the server is the central location where users share and access network resources. It controls the level of access that users have to share resources. In other words, a server provides functionality and serve other programs called clients.

Cables and connectors. These link together the computers, printers, servers and other equipment on your network.
A router. This manages network traffic, ensuring devices can communicate with each other via both wired and wireless connections, and provides internet connectivity.
A wireless access point (optional). This will extend your wireless network if the router is incapable of offering coverage in certain parts of the building.
An internet connection. This could be a faster fibre connection or dedicated leased line.
A hardware firewall. This creates a secure barrier between your network and the internet, blocking security threats. Networks sometimes include an on-site network server which runs central applications, acts as an email server and provides file storage.

The router: a vital network component

The router acts as a signpost, indicating where data on your network should go and enables devices to communicate with one another.

Routers also connect directly to the internet and share the connection via cable or Wi-Fi with devices on the network

Going wireless

Routers also include Wi-Fi capability, enabling people to connect laptops, smartphones, tablets and other devices to the network wirelessly.

Wi-Fi is ideal for providing network access to staff with mobile devices and in meeting rooms or common areas. It's also useful for offering internet access to visitors, with many routers including a separate 'guest' network for the purpose.

Network equipment speeds

Most network equipment complies with common standards, so you can combine routers, cables and firewalls from different manufacturers. However, the speed of your network might be governed by the slowest element. For example, if all your cables and computers are rated to Cat 6, make sure your router is rated to Cat 6 too.

There are a number of wireless networking standards to take into account, although the majority of modern devices will include support for the latest versions. Try to get a wireless router or access point rated to 'Wireless n' or '802.11n'; it's the fastest type available, but will still work with older wireless equipment, too.

What computer configuration tasks might you need to perform?

Cisco Network Services Orchestrator(NSO)

NSO provides a robust bridge linking network automation and orchestration tools with the underlying physical and virtual infrastructure. It includes a rich set of northbound software interfaces and APIs that allow straightforward northbound integration. An extensible southbound device abstraction layer means NSO works with multiple vendors and multiple technology domains.

What type of network is called for LAN, WAN, MAN, or internetwork?

Internetwork is the best because it connects to LANs ow WANs to each other via a router, when you find routers that connect networks together, this is called internetwork.

The purpose of internetwork

Internetworking is the process or technique of connecting different networks by using intermediary devices such as routers or gateway devices. Internetworking ensures data communication among networks owned and operated by different entities using a common data communication and the Internet Routing Protocol

What additional devices might be needed to ensure efficient network communication?

additional devices might be needed to ensure efficient network communication is Bridge. It is a network device that connects two networks together and only allows packets through that are needed.

To be considered effective and efficient, a network must meet a number of criteria. The most important of these are performance, reliability, and security. Performance: Performance can be measured in many ways, including transit time and response time.
