The supervisor of data services at Reid Hospital is responsible for all databases that are maintained in the facility. It has been determined there are new organizational needs in the area of biosurveillance. The medical director requests that the supervisor of data services investigate developing a registry or database to track cases of potential bioterrorism, communicable disease outbreaks, and other unusual diseases or symptoms.
What resources should be available to the data services supervisor to help define the biosurveillance registry and how can existing registries be useful in determining data elements? What value would a biosurveillance registry provide? Explain your position.
Generally, the facilities like Patient's medical record, ambulatory surgery, radiology records, pathology, patient's satisfaction records etc are taken under the record survelliance as they define the hospitality rates.
The data services supervisor should have the resources like online feedback, complete blood test reports of their patients on their online data, patients records undergone organ transplant, their biometric entry and exit records, etc.
The existing records can help the supervisor to evaluate that which patient or their aquintiances might have the disease, the approx timing of the disease introduction, sometimes the method and route of entry can also be determined after careful case study of the patient.
The biosurveillance registry would be much informative as it provides that information by which we can estimate the rate and the route of the disease spreading and also the methods to overcome them and eliminate them. This would be helpful to stop the outbreaks of serious diseases. This only can be determine if the record are properly maintained and are up to date.
