define rules of coding cardiovascular services when codes from the medicine section are used?
Medicine Services
The final chapter in the CPT book (codes 90281-99607) covers medicine services provided by many different types of practices, including psychotherapists, physical and occupational therapists, and audiologists.
There are two subsections: procedure-oriented and specialty. The chapter includes vaccines and faxing administration codes; psychiatry services; dialysis; some gastroenterology, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngologic, cardiovascular, pulmonary, allergy, endocrine, neurology, and central nervous system assessments; hydration and injections; physical therapy; nutrition; and other services. EKGs, pulmonary function tests, and moderate sedation are also in this subsection.
When reporting Cardiology services you will often be using codes from three section: Sections: Surgery Medicine, and Radiology.
Medicine is the most diverse section of the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) manual. The Medicine section covers everything from vaccination to acupuncture, making it often very difficult to navigate.
