List the different ways of prescribing/assessing exercise intensity that would be appropriate for a client who wants to exercise on gym equipment, including modalities such as treadmill, stair climber and elliptical, assuming access to portable technology (ex. heart rate monitor or GPS watch). Explain WHY each of these could be used in this setting.

Solutions

Expert Solution

* Different ways of assessing exercise intensity are,

                       * Assessment of heart rate.

                       * Talk method.

                       * Assessing the aerobic activity.

                       * Assessment of amount of sweat produced.

* Assessment of heart rate

                     * Heart rate of a client can used to evaluvate the intensity of exercise through calculate

                       the heart rate reserve (HRR) by measuring the difference between maximum heart rate

                       during exercise and resting heart rate.

* Talk method

              *In this method client can evaluvate intensity of exercise through loudness or number of words

                use when doing exercise.if the client doing a hard level of exercise he can't talk a single word

                 and in moderate level of exercises client can talk.

* Assessment of amount of sweat produced.

                 * It is useful in clients who are practicing indoor exercises like treadmill,stair climber to check

                   the intensity of exercise. if the person doing hard training in gym heavy sweating will occur

                   and moderate level of training result in moderate level of sweating.

* Assessing the aerobic activity

                  * Based on the respiratory rate during exercise client can measure the intensity of exercise

                    if the person doing a hard level of exercise feel difficulty in catching breath and in moderate

                    level of exercises respiratory rate will be faster than normal rate.

Prescribing exercise intensity can be achieved using many physiological variables. One of the most useful manners may be to use respiratory gas exchange measurements. First describe exercise intensity zones based upon ventilatory equivalents. Then relate the following: heart-rate zones, lactate threshold(s), and VO2max to these zones created using ventilatory equivalents.
