1. Create a concept map of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS). Include expected effects of both sympathomimetics and sympatholytics, two drugs which stimulate the SNS, the main neurotransmitter involved in the SNS, and the receptors involved in the SNS.
Sympathetic nerve system
* It is part of autonomic nerve system which prepare the body in emergency situvations
like fight or flight response.
* it orginate from first thoracic segment to second lumbar segment (T1- L2)
Afferent fibers synapse with the lateral horn cells in the intermediolateral horn of spinal
cord.
* Pregangionic neurons axons are arise from their cell body which are mylenated and slow
conducting type B nerve fibers.
* They going out of the spinal cord through the ventral route and reach the white ramus and
enter the ganglia of paravertebral sympathetic chain.
* After enter the chain they can either ascend or descend to make synapse with post ganglion
neurons in the ganglia.
Effect of sympathomimetics
* Pupil dilation and relaxation of ciliary muscle
* Increase heart rate.
* Brochodilation and reduce secretion.
* Decrease gi motility and sphincter contraction.
* Vasoconstriction
Effect of sympatholytics
* It prevent the effects of sympathetic adrenergic system.
* act as antihypertensive.
* Block transmission of pain impulse to brain.
* Block the action of nor epinephrine in heart and blood vessels.
2 Drugs stimulate SNS
1 .Salmeterol
it stimulate sns result in bronchodilation.
2. Dopamine
it stimulate sns result in vasoconstriction.
Receptors involved in SNS are
* Alpha 1,Alpha 2
* Beta 1, Beta 2, Beta 3
