Q5) Explain: A) why we see the sky is blue? B) why we see the Sun red at Sunset?
Q6) Explain: why when we rotate a polarized sun glasses looking at the reflection from a non-metallic surface, we can almost block all the reflection.
5.) A.) Sky looks blue because the scattering of blue light is more dominant than any other by the small particle of gases. Actually the light emitted by sun consists every colour but as it passes through our atmosphere the shorter wavelength of light that is blue colour is more scattered because of his small wavelength and so the colour of sky looks blue.
B.) At sunset light has to travel a longer distance as compared to in the noon and for the same reason as we have discussed above the blue light is much more scattered near the horizon and so the only part left are of the longer wavelength that is more of a red colour. And it is only the red colour that reaches to our eyes with much more intensity than blue light so the colour of the sun looks red orange at sunset or in during sunrise.
6.) When light falls on metallic surface it get reflected in all possible directions it is the nature of light at that it vibrates in all possible direction in random way. But when we use polarizers it blocks the light from every other direction or better say it blocks the light vibrating in other direction except the direction of polaroids. Ans so the light reaching our eyes are very less as compared to that reflected from the mettalic susface.
