Introduction to Starbucks
Starbucks, a popular American coffee brand was founded in 1971 by three partners Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl, and Gordon Bowkerand. Its first outlet was opened in Seattle, Washington. The three owners sold the Starbucks chain to Howard Schultz in 1987. Howard Schultz rebranded the coffee chain quickly began to expand which was going to be one of the largest coffee brands in future.
Now Starbucks has been serving coffee at more than 28000 locations without geographical limitations. This brand has its presence across more than 75 countries all over the world.
Apart from selling customized coffees, Their merchandise includes non coffee items such as books, mugs, bottles, accessories, coffee and tea brewing equipment and Verismo system by Starbucks.
Organizational Structure and Employee's Responsibilities
Starbucks follows a matrix organizational structure, a combination of several organizational structure which are geographic divisional structure, team structure and product based divisional structure.
The hirearchy in the functional structure follows as CEO and below the CEO will be the divisional directors such as HR director, CFO, CTO, COO, Marketing Director etc. This struture is a top hirearchy os the firm who make and implement policies for the entire organizations and cafes.
Responsibilities Of its Employees
As per the CEO of Starbucks, they follow a culture wherein each company employees is made to feel that they are important and valued. Their belief about achieving long-term goal and success in the market, senior management as well as managers should create a relationship of trust with employees on genuine basis. The employees are encourage to contribute different ideas and the company takes each employee ideas very seriously. Starbucks carrries a regular opinion poll within its organization, and telephone survey system.The employees here can anytime speak out on ideas and the management responds within two-three weeks about employees’ ideas.
On work front the employees at each level are given periodical training and development. Th policies drafted by senior management are applicable for employees basis on the hirearchial level. Each individual manager has the task of Decision-making, following a decentralized authority. With more than 28,000 stores worldwide, each starbucks store has its own type of management, authorities. The organization and its employees are flexible as the organization expands. That is why employee empowerment is the key value for managers. Managers focus on ehancing communication skills of everyone employed at Starbucks. Starbucks has made focused a lot on internal communication. They have proved to become a transparent organization and provide direction of communication through solid channels of communication thus resulting in huge success. Starbucks changed its organizational structure to a matrix structure to improve their customer's experience.
Reponsibilities of Employees in Coffee Making Process
The coffee making process includes several things. Besides making the cup of coffee there are things that should be taken into account during the production process. Employees of Starbucks have to make sure that the quality of the coffee is as per the quality standards set by the company. Wrong ingredients, the customers dissatisfaction, which will result in a lower customer loyalty, and less sales is something unavoidable. It is very important that an employee delivers quality during the production process.
Organizational structure & Responsibilities
CEO
The CEO implements and brings out various ideas and innovation for expanding the organization. His main focus is on leading the retail chain as per the next generation and developing the payment initiatives.
CFO
The CFO focuses on the financial areas of the organization. He focuses on the sales as per the input in each geographical areas. The costing is implemented depending on each geographical division's analysis.
Director of Human Resource
The director of Human resource shall implement and focus on employee engangment, retention and training and development. The policies drafted by human resource director ill focus on growing the company by training employees to contribute to the company.
Business Analyst Manager
The Business Analyst manager is different for each geographical division as well as the product division. Through the data research analysis and the market analysis, owing to the supply and demand and needs of customer he shall get the analysis of performance of each geographical and product for further implmentation of plans.
Developer
The developer will be the coder taking care of the overall IT. The websites, Billing and ordring application etc to working fine is the main focus of an IT
Production Manager
The production manager shall keep a check on progress of coffee making the raw materials and coordinate witht he vendors.
