Project B: This project requires an initial investment of $20,000,000 in equipment which will require additional expense of $1,000,000 to install in the current facility. Consistent with other projects, the equipment will be depreciated using the MACRS Investment Class schedule. Once installed, the firm will need to increase inventory by $6,000,000. The project will last 6 years, but at the end of that period, the equipment will have no salvage value. During the operational period of this project, the product produced will sell for $6.50 per unit. The costs related to this product will be $4.00 per unit in variable cost and the fixed costs each year will be $1,000,000. Management has estimated that the sales volume for this project will be 3,500,000 in year 1, 4,000,000 in year 2, 4,250,000 in year 3, 4,500,000 in year 4, 4,300,000 in year 5, and 4,200,000 in year 6. Since the project has been brought under consideration through the normal channels, a discount rate equal to the WACC should be used in the project valuation.

Create a valuation spreadsheet for each of the projects mentioned above. Evaluate each project according to the following valuation methods: a. Net Present Value of Discounted Cash Flow b. Internal Rate of Return c. Payback Period d. Profitability Index

Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System (MACRS)

Ownership Year 5-Year Investment Class Depreciation Schedule

1 20%

2 32%

3 19%

4 12%

5 11%

6 6%

Project A: This project requires an initial investment of $20,000,000 in equipment which will cost an additional $3,000,000 to install. The firm will use the attached MACRS depreciation schedule to expense this equipment. Once the equipment is installed, the company will need to increase raw goods inventory by $5,000,000, but it will also see an increase in accounts payable for $1,500,000. With this investment, the project will last 6 years at which time the market value for the equipment will...

A project requires an initial investment of $20,000,000. The life of the project is 3 years. The $20,000,000 investment will be depreciated using the three-year modified accelerated cost recovery system (MACRS) class (see the table below). The firm estimates that, in the first year, the revenues and total production costs will be $60,000,000 and $45,000,000, respectively, in nominal terms. After that the sales and production costs are expected to increase at the inflation rate of 4 percent per year over...

What is the NPV of project A? The project would require an initial investment in equipment of 60,000 dollars and would last for either 3 years or 4 years (the date when the project ends will not be known until it happens and that will be when the equipment stops working in either 3 years from today or 4 years from today). A proposed project requires an initial cash outlay of $250,919 for equipment and an additional cash outlay of $30,951 in year 1 to cover operating costs. During years 2 through 4, the project will generate cash inflows of $500,000 a year. What is the net present value of this project at a discount rate of 4 percent? A firm is considering a project that requires an initial investment of $300,000 in new equipment, which has a five-year life and a CCA rate of 30 percent. An initial investment in raw materials inventory of $50,000 is also required to support the project, which will rise to 15 percent of sales. The project will generate sales revenue of $400,000 in the first year, which will grow at 4 percent per year. Variable costs will be $220,000 for the first...

Fairfax Pizza is evaluating a project that would require an initial investment in equipment of 200,000 dollars and that is expected to last for 6 years. MACRS depreciation would be used where the depreciation rates in years 1, 2, 3, and 4 are 40 percent, 33 percent, 19 percent, and 8 percent, respectively.
