Suppose that the product preferences of cultures and people
around the world continue to converge. Identify two products that
will likely be affected and two products that will likely not be
affected by this convergence. Please provide proper explanation why
these products will be affected or not affected. For each product,
how will the changes influence the marketing manager's
job?
Two Products which will be affected by the convergence
1) Local Foods - When the local food business of a particular area competes with global varieties, due to convergence obviously, there would be atleast slight decrease in demand in the local food market on the whole. In this regar, the marketing manager is pressurised to increase the sales ofthelocal food in the away market as well.
2) Clothing- With the convergence of world, the regional clothing industries might get affected due to the trends that people adopt as part of convergence and here, the marketing manager is pressurised to develop the market for the local brands abroad as well.
Two Products which will not be affected by convergence
1) Cement- Even with convergence or without convergence, the construction of buildings relies heavily on cement and the marketing manager is pressurised to develp strategies to sustain the increasing competititon.
2) Mobile Phones- The mobile phones is now a common need even with or without convergence and the marketing manager is pressurised to develp strategies to sustain the increasing competititon on the whole.
