An SLP is recently hired into a high paying therapist position at a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). He is instructed by the SNF director to place each newly assessed patient into the highest therapy reimbursement structure (as opposed to relying on each individual assessment to dictate the level of therapy). First, how would you address the newly hired SLP in regard to him following the director's guidelines? Second, is the SLP violating ASHA Code of Ethics in this case? If so, how?
Documentation plays a critical role in communicating with third
party payers for the medical necessity that speech-language
pathologists (SLP) need special skills for this. Medical necessity
is an important element for reimbursement for SLP service for the
newly assessed patients, it safe, effective, investigational, the
accepted standard of medical practice for their medical needs, and
condition should be followed by SLP. Address the newly hired SLP
for following guidelines for accepted standards of practice by
providing appropriate amounts, frequency, and duration, appropriate
treatment, diagnosis, and function for the service provided. Target
the treatment goal have functional improvement with reasonable
times, if it is a degenerative condition, utilize the special
skills and knowledge for clinical judgment.

outpatient therapy, security, and quality outcome for groups and
