The fluid that enters the glomerular capsular space from the plasma through the filtration membrane is called glomerular filtrates. The amount of fluid produced by both kidneys in a minute is called the glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Its average values in a healthy adult are 125mL/min. Maintaining constant GFR is important in maintaining homeostasis of the body fluid. There are two mechanisms by which the kidney maintains constant GFR that is the intrinsic and extrinsic regulatory system of GFR. Intrinsic control of GFR is autoregulation of GFR (occur locally within the kidney) and it includes the myogenic mechanism and tubuloglomerular feedback. The primary goal of intrinsic regulation is to maintain constant GFR when blood pressure changes
