Think about the many sides and views on the issue of global warming. What is the role that individuals and
society play in the complexity of the issue?
Individuals and society have a very crucial role to play in the fight against global warming. In the age of globalisation we are accustomed to a variety of range of goods and services. But globalisation doesn't end there it also brings about a deep cultural and social shift. Due to this we are able to discuss problems such as global warming with much more interest and in a collective manner. However, there may be a flip side to this which is the form of false news and claims. Recently a lot of stories have emerged that global warming is a hoax and surprisingly it has found a lot of supporters. The Internet age allows such issues to be viewed in highly vaired perspectives which also include misleading and incorrect schools of thought. This has further stunted the growth of awareness campaigns associated with global warming. Also, the growth of consumerism means that the market always provides newer products due to the high demand. This market dynamic can only be achieved by exploiting natural resources which result in the emission of CFCs and greenhouse gases. Added to this is the lack of committment to goals provided by international agreements like Kyoto Protocol, Paris Climate agreement etc which desensitise the issue.
Hence it is crucial to do ones bit in the fight against global warming. Starting at the grassroots level we can try to convince an individual at a time to move towards sustainable living. This is the need of the hour to continue the fight against global warming.
