Briefly explain why drugs are unsuitable for administration to a patient in their free powder form and what is the solution for this.

POWDERS---- They are mixtures of dry ,small, finely divided drugs used as both externally and internally.

Free powder form drugs administration makes uncomfortable to patients Because----

1. They are bitter in taste for some drugs cause formulation problems for oral administration.

2. With use of fine powder their is problem of agglomeration.

3.bulk powders are not convenient for adminstration of potent drugs at low dose and cause inaccuracy of dose.

4. Not effective for dispensing volatile drug.

5. It cause difficulty for adminstration of hygroscopic type of drugs.

6. It is not used with that drugs which cause damage to stomach.

7. They create problems to carry.

8. They are expensive mixtures , and takes time to prepare .

9. Has slow onset of action.

The solutions for this kind of problem is ----

1.Dissolve the powder in liquid or solvents to convert in liquid dosage form.

2. Blend powdered drugs with fillers or other ingredients to form capsules or tablet.

3. They can also used with semisolids bases during preparation of cream or ointment.

4. To make powder suitable to be use by children mix it with honey , fruit juice, or food.
